The city's chief magistrate who arrests Edmond Dantès. Upon discovering the incriminating letter is addressed to his own Bonapartist father, he burns it to protect himself and orders Edmond imprisoned. He later secretly orders the assassination of his father and is eventually exposed and arrested by the Count's revenge plot.
