A struggling New Mexico rancher devoted to his wife Meg. Initially refuses to help Denning but later accepts $10,000 to escort them across the border. Tends to Meg's infected wound using the money as fuel for a fire. Fights Denning, survives being pinned by a boulder, and ultimately returns home after Denning's death.
Both men are legally and practically tied together after the accidental homicide.
