Central subject of the documentary. A former Texas ranch hand who joined the USAAC in 1938, trained as a bomber pilot, and flew a B-17 mission over Legaspi on December 14, 1941. Survived a heavy fighter attack, landed safely with flat tires, and was nationally praised by President Roosevelt for his Distinguished Flying Cross actions.
