An orchestra donor and police suspect with a criminal record, initially accused of extortion and attempted rape. As a former accomplice in Morgan Sher's kidnapping, he is targeted for revenge. He is ultimately murdered by Sher, who stages the scene to frame Adam Fowler, unaware that Butler's wife has secretly recorded the crime.
