Protagonist whose life story is narrated through a manuscript left for her husband. As an 18-year-old university student in 1978 Tehran, she joins a revolutionary communist group distributing illegal fliers. She forms a complex connection with an intellectual named Roozebeh, who offers her a way to flee to England, but severs ties upon discovering his family and her resemblance to his childhood sweetheart. She later marries her husband, conceals her revolutionary past, and eventually reveals it to him to influence his perspective on a death row case.
