Jean's brother-in-law who goes gold prospecting in Alaska and discovers a rich claim. He develops romantic feelings for Jean and later achieves great mining success in New York. He secretly covers up his brother's death, orchestrates a trap for the blackmailer, and is ultimately acquitted of murder after the confrontation.
