A brutal oprichnik driven by unrequited love for Yelena. He resorts to dark magic and, with Ivan's tacit approval, abducts and assaults Yelena. He is accused of witchcraft by Basmanov and ultimately sentenced to execution by Ivan, who attributes the witchcraft charges to him.
