Protagonist and minor nobleman who seeks revenge against the aristocracy. After his friend Philippe is killed by the Marquis de Maynes, André disguises himself as the commedia dell'arte character Scaramouche. He secretly trains in swordsmanship, joins the National Assembly to challenge nobles in duels, and ultimately defeats Maynes to win Aline's hand.
