The much older brother and a ship's captain, secretly betrothed to Priscilla. After she spurns him, he drinks heavily, experiences hallucinations, and threatens Joel. He is supposedly killed in a Singapore bar fight but is later found alive as a broken drunk who finally accepts Priscilla's love for Joel.
