A former gymnast and notorious womanizer working in Berlin. Despite failing at sales, he becomes a successful seducer and later the pimp/protector of Lissy, earning the nickname 'Émile des Roses'. He pursues Bertha for social advancement and wealth, causing rifts with Lissy. After a nightmare, he realizes his mistakes and returns to Lissy, but it is too late as she tragically dies in his arms.
