A young village poet who writes song lyrics. Brought to the city by a college principal, he trains Kusum for a performance and falls in love with her. After a complicated romantic conflict and marriage, he retreats from public life. He later misunderstands career assistance offered by his rival as a sign of Kusum's lingering affection, until Kusum clarifies that she views him solely as a respected Guru.
