Initially opposed to his son's career, he changes his perspective after a phone conversation with a cardinal about Marco's refereeing abilities. He overcomes his snobbery to plead for Marco's return from Luciana's parents and ultimately tears up his resignation letter, fully endorsing his son's profession.
