A depressed Japanese girl mysteriously summoned to the world of Gaea. She is believed by rebels to be the prophesied wing goddess who will revive the doomsday weapon Escaflowne. She grows closer to rebel leader Van and helps bring about the fall of his vengeful brother Folken, the master of the Black Dragon Clan.
