Executive officer and the submarine's original captain. He protests dangerous orders and storms off the bridge. During the crisis, he talks down Vostrikov regarding the fire suppression system, assists the fire crew, and orchestrates the arrest of mutineers to free Vostrikov. He later defends Vostrikov at his trial and reunites with survivors years later.
