A widowed scientist dedicated to interstellar communication. He becomes romantically involved with Celeste, a visiting alien, and later helps her resolve a crisis affecting her home planet by recreating a radio signal. He accepts her true nature, integrates her into human society, and convinces her leaders to spare Earth.
