Daughter of Rev. Jeremiah Brown and fiancée of Bertram Cates. She protests her father's religious zeal and is condemned by him. Compelled by Brady to testify about Cates's doubts, she becomes distressed and her testimony inadvertently damages Cates's case with the jury.
