A fisheries expert initially skeptical of bringing salmon to Yemen. Pressured by his boss to join the project, he becomes its scientific lead, falls in love with Harriet, resigns from his government job to save the initiative, and saves the Sheikh from an assassination attempt. Ultimately decides to stay in Yemen to help rebuild the valley.
