Reclusive scientist conducting long-term research on American bald eagles in the Rocky Mountains. Initially reluctant to host city reporter Ernie Souchak, she realizes he needs her guide to survive. Over time, they develop mutual respect and fall in love. She eventually permits him to write about her work. After attending a museum lecture in Chicago, she and Ernie initially part ways due to their contrasting life paths, but ultimately reconcile, choose to marry, and reunite in Wyoming.
