The protagonist and son of Dela. After losing his family's savings to street kids, he travels to Wild Island on a whale named Soda. There, he frees a dragon named Boris and makes a deal to help him save the island in exchange for funding a new candy store. Elmer discovers the island is sinking due to weakened roots, helps Boris overcome his fears, and ultimately saves the island before returning home to his mother.
Mrs. McClaren owns the property and rents it to Elmer's family.
