Sir Alexander, a Member of Parliament and the adoptive father of Anne. He hosts family gatherings and secretly stores government documents in his estate's sheds. A staunch believer in appeasement, he fears Britain will be destroyed without an early peace with Germany. He chairs pro-appeasement meetings in London and eventually imprisons Anne to protect her from her own convictions and the conspiracy.
