A cynical boxing promoter who discovers Ward's punching power and trains him. Initially protective, he becomes vengeful when he learns Ward is dating his sister Marie, deliberately ordering him to lose a title fight and betting against him. After realizing his destructive behavior, he redeems himself by changing tactics mid-fight. He dies in a shootout with Turkey Morgan, finally giving his blessing to Ward and Marie.
