The central widow managing the Burgundy farm alone alongside her infirm father-in-law. She takes in the mysterious stranger Jean, offering him work and lodging, and they become lovers. Her trust is strained when Jean also seduces her niece. After her sister-in-law denounces him to the authorities, she is caught in the crossfire and killed during a police siege.
