The director and creator of the documentary. He initially planned to adapt poems but shifted focus to filming the life of peasant leader João Pedro Teixeira. After his footage was confiscated by the military dictatorship in 1964, he returned decades later to revisit the original cast, document their reactions, and complete the project as a meta-documentary about the filmmaking process itself.
