The Baronet husband of Constance. Crippled and impotent following World War I, he initially encourages Connie to find a lover to produce an heir. However, he becomes violently jealous and class-prejudiced when he discovers she is involved with a lower-class gamekeeper. He exiles her to Venice, fires Mellors, and ultimately rejects Connie's return, refusing to accept a commoner's child as his heir.
