A skilled but alcoholic surgeon and former university classmate of Vallotti. Haunted by guilt over a patient's death and subsequent suicide, he is counseled by a nun to confront his conscience, quit drinking, and return to work. He becomes the whistleblower who exposes Vallotti's corruption, is subsequently framed by colleagues for a fatal error, and uses the situation to blackmail Vallotti into dropping the complaint.
