A disciplined young monk whose strict six-year practice yields no spiritual progress until he meets Ji-san. He adopts Ji-san's unconventional path, lives with him in a mountain hermitage, and eventually cremates him. Pobun delivers a Buddha statue to a local woman, reunites with his birth mother, and embarks on a long road of suffering and introspection, marking his true spiritual awakening.
