Aya's older brother who helps rescue and name the stray Shiba Inu, Mari. Survives the earthquake safely while at school. Later joins Aya in a dangerous expedition into the flooded village to find Mari, where they become lost and injured until their father locates them. Plays a key role in the family's reunion with the dogs.
