A bored housewife who joins the Women's Royal Naval Service, becoming assertive and self-confident. She dates naval architect Richard but remains faithful to Robert. After initiating a divorce, she meets Robert in a pub, discovers they have become strangers yet are drawn to each other, and ultimately reconciles with him in the morning light.
