U.S. Army Sergeant deeply moved by a Christmas card sent by Faith. After a comrade's death, he travels to Nevada City, saves Faith's father from a car accident, and temporarily works at the Spelman logging company. He falls in love with Faith, shares a kiss with her, and ultimately confesses his feelings before leaving a handmade wooden bench and a farewell note. He is later found by Faith at a veterans' memorial, leading to their reunion.
