An unsuccessful artist who builds experimental flying machines. Sentenced to community service for a failed test flight, he cares for Jane, becomes her close friend, and helps her find a gigolo. He aborts a bank robbery to fund the arrangement, joins Jane in a final flight, sleeps with her, and honors her memory.
Richard acts as the client who hires and partially pays the gigolo for Jane's request.
