A widower who becomes close friends with Jane while teaching piano to their son. He supports the Hawking family during Stephen’s illness and eventually admits his romantic feelings for Jane. Though he steps back at Stephen’s request, he later reunites with Jane after her marriage ends, marries her, and shares a lasting friendship with Stephen.
