A Wehrmacht Captain tasked with guarding the exiled Kaiser. He secretly engages in a romance with Mieke de Jong, protecting her from the SS and Gestapo. Disillusioned by Nazi atrocities and Himmler's schemes, he facilitates her escape, kills a Gestapo inspector to cover her tracks, and later reunites with her in London.
