Maren’s estranged mother, who resides in a psychiatric hospital in Minnesota. She has succumbed to her condition, having eaten her own hands. Consumed by guilt and a belief that her daughter is cursed, she attacks Maren after reading a letter expressing her wish that Maren would be better off dead.
