A fire element immigrant and father of Ember. He holds onto his cultural traditions via the Blue Flame and runs the Fireplace convenience store. Initially strict about Ember inheriting the business and controlling her temper, he eventually steps back after a major flood, reconciles with his daughter's true desires, and retires, handing the store over to his friends.
Bernie is Ember's father and the owner of the Fireplace, expecting her to take over.
Bernie and Cinder are married partners who share the burden of running the Fireplace.
