Jerry Kane's homeschooled son who is briefly held at a juvenile detention center where he is encouraged to attend public high school. During a police traffic stop with his father, Joe abruptly shoots and kills two officers. Overwhelmed by horror, he tries to flee but is stopped by Jerry. He is ultimately killed by police alongside his father.
