Protagonist. A Jewish woman with lesbian tendencies who adopted her deceased mistress's son. She founded a successful bank, lived luxuriously, and associated with influential figures. Imprisoned due to political maneuvering, she escaped, was eventually released, but was shot on orders during a meeting where she declared her innocence, dying in Colette's arms.
