A civil engineer and gold prospector who becomes the central leader of the Ballarat miners. He forms the Reform League, rallies supporters under the Eureka Flag, and leads the armed camp at the Eureka Stockade. After the rebellion is crushed and his arm is amputated, he is tried but acquitted, eventually winning a parliamentary seat and successfully bidding for farmland.
