The eldest son, nicknamed Dutch, who emigrates to America, marries Annabelle, and builds a thriving delicatessen. He enlists in the American Expeditionary Forces, serves in France, and discovers a dying brother. After the war, he brings his mother to America, frantically searching for her until they reunite in his apartment.
