Tobias is a student whose lateness, poor report card, and classroom misbehavior place him at risk of repeating the year. He likes Marie Louise but has barely spoken to her, worries about school, practices large numbers with Mees Kees, and notices when the teacher begins struggling under pressure.
Tobias is one of the children on the camping trip. He quietly thinks about his father and later disappears from the camp with his bicycle, prompting Mees Kees to search for him. His disappearance causes the other children to spread an exaggerated rumor, and Mees Kees eventually finds and reprimands him.
