A hotel porter whose singing inspires Al McGillevray to offer to make him an opera star. Jan studies with Minotti and auditions for the Metropolitan Opera, but becomes a popular crooner instead. His drinking and missed shows cost him his job; Al later sends him to Italy to protect his voice, and Jan returns for his opera debut wanting Al to manage him again.
