Masha is the school's best student and the object of Petrov's affection. She recognizes Petrov as the writer of an anonymous letter by comparing its spelling mistakes with his work, and she sees through the boys' plans. She excels in sports, French, and first aid, saves both boys during their swimming-class scheme, and helps them formulate a wish to undo their magical abilities.

While away at competitions, she receives Petrov's letter indirectly, later visits the camp with a book that inspires their new game, and ultimately receives the edelweiss Petrov brings back from the mountain.
