Albin is one of the two boys at the center of the story, alongside Stig. Their mothers encourage competition between them from childhood, and Albin and Stig later compete on their own, including risky jumping contests and an earthworm-eating contest. After both break a leg jumping from a barn roof, he recovers in hospital and shares a laugh with Stig as they recognize the foolishness of their rivalry.
