Iliana is Esteria's adult daughter, engaged to a wealthy nobleman, but she secretly loves the Swedish painter Hedwick. She leaves her engagement party to meet him, is trapped with him by Sibilla, and later hides at El Dorado. When her father refuses to relent, she and Hedwick plan to flee to his mother's house and take Sibilla's boy with them.
