A one-eyed gull that repeatedly bothers Howard on the island. Wake warns against killing it, believing gulls are reincarnated sailors. Howard finds a dead gull in the cistern bloodying the drinking water, is attacked by the one-eyed gull, and brutally bludgeons it to death, after which the storm hits. At the end, a flock of gulls peck at Howard's exposed organs on the rocks.
