At 20 years of age, Cathal adapted his short film The Pooka into his debut feature Pooka, which he wrote and directed during his time in university. His short films Antlers and A Hollow Tree screened at multiple film festivals around the world. He has since completed Hollow Trees, the feature film adaptation, which is set to release in 2026.
