Henry Ravignac is a French captain and Marie Chaumontel's lover. Marie steals papers from him and passes them to the Germans, after which he is tried and found guilty of neglect. Unable to bear the consequences, he commits suicide. His death prompts his brother Charles to vow revenge on Marie.
