Priest is a racketeer whom Duke approaches in hopes of obtaining a gun and gaining power within the Royal Pythons. When pursued by enemies, Priest is given refuge at the gang's headquarters, but he is later found dead there by Duke, intensifying the crisis that leads to Duke's arrest.
Cowboy is the group's heroin connection, whose delayed arrival creates the central tension among the waiting addicts. He brings Sister Salvation, supplies and injects Leach, then lets Leach administer the drug himself. After Leach overdoses, Cowboy revives him, making him both the source of the crisis and its immediate responder.
