Siegesmund is the son of a wealthy landowner. After being hunted and nearly shot by French soldiers, he is rescued by Pia and Markus and taken across the border. He falls in love with Cilgia, grows jealous of Markus, and later confronts him on the mountain. When Markus saves his life again, Siegesmund takes the blame for the fall.
