Alice works in a bar but hopes to become an actress and pursue work in the theatre. She is involved with Abdel, whose wish that she leave the bar conflicts with her ambitions. She invites Max to stay and talks with him, then tells Abdel their relationship has no future. After Abdel dies, she asks why Max did it.
