Nariko follows the trail toward Loki while learning more about Kai's past and the violence of Flying Fox. The search brings her into conflict with Whiptail and reveals that Loki has gone northeast.

The sisters rescue Loki, but Flying Fox kills him before the sword can fulfill its prophecy. Nariko returns to face Bohan's army, defeats the king, and entrusts the sword to Kai.
